The event is also designed to attract volunteers and donors in support of its humanitarian objectives. Tickets for Rahma’s first official fundraising event are being sold for a nominal fee of AED 50, the proceeds of which shall go towards the Society and the achievement of its objectives.
The Cancer Patient Care Society (CPCS) – Rahma – was launched under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces (may Allah protect him), during a ceremony held at the Emirates Palace hotel, Abu Dhabi, on September 15, 2015. During the official launch party, His Excellency Dr. Jamal Sanad Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) and Chairman of the of the Cancer Patient Care Society (CPCS) – Rahma – revealed one of the key motivating factors behind both the upcoming event due to be held at Yas Marina Circuit, and future fundraising campaigns, currently being organized by Rahma. Dr. Al-Suwaidi highlighted how Rahma’s efforts are designed to complement the continual efforts being made by the UAE and the government of Abu Dhabi with regards to fighting cancer. Dr. Al-Suwaidi paid tribute to the fact that the UAE’s wise leadership has made the protection of the health of the Emirati people and the residents of our beloved nation one of its main priorities—based on an acknowledgement of the importance of humanity and human capital as a central pillar for national development. Dr. Al-Suwaidi also extended his personal gratitude for the notable support that was extended by the UAE leadership in view of facilitating the establishment of Rahma.
At the official launch party, Ms. Nora Al-Suwaidi, Director General of the Cancer Patient Care Society (CPCS) –Rahma – revealed the primary objectives behind “RAHMA YAS,” including: the raising of awareness about the importance of regular exercise and maintaining a healthy lifestyle as a means of lowering the risk of cancer; and how the sports event is intended as a clear message of support and compassion for cancer patients (may Allah cure them). She noted how it is anticipated that “RAHMA YAS” will raise approximately AED 200,000 via a combination of participation fees and direct contributions. Proceeds will be dedicated to supporting Rahma, which seeks to develop innovative mechanisms to help support and relieve the pain of those diagnosed with cancer; in addition to providing useful advice for the patients’ families and friends about how to provide a better standard of care for their loved ones.
Ms. Nora Al-Suwaidi revealed that Rahma is planning to develop a comprehensive database of the best hospitals and medical centers in the world specialized in treating cancer. Rahma established a dedicated hotline (80090) to provide free consultations for cancer patients around the clock, seven days a week in both Arabic and English. The service will feature experienced operators capable of assisting patients, their relatives and friends. Rahma shall guarantee the confidentiality of these calls. Ms. Nora Al-Suwaidi also explained that that the Cancer Patient Care Society (CPCS) – Rahma – will have its own interactive website, through which the members of Rahma and cancer patients can communicate and help can be offered in the form of donations, information, or personal experiences from other patients who have courageously struggled with the disease. A Rahma app will also be assembled and subsequently available to download to smart-phones for free. The app will list Rahma activities and stated objectives in serving the community. In addition, Rahma will carry out intensive awareness and information campaigns to educate and sensitize people to the dangers of cancer and the importance of early detection. It will provide group treatments sessions for cancer patients to exchange experiences, and provide psychological and moral support to them.
Finally, it also worth mentioning, that the YAS Marina Circuit will provide each participant with a t-shirt (available in either purple or white) to wear while running or riding a bike. Participants will also be invited to enter the entertainment village, which shall offer a variety of musical performances and a selection of different health foods and beverages, in a welcoming, family environment. “RAHMA YAS” is one of several family and community events held at the Yas Marina Circuit.
